Introduction:

In 2019, Bugha shocked the world by winning $3 million in the Fortnite World Cup, beating all 99 other players in the tournament. Bugha, being 16, was ecstatic. There are so many events, tournaments and shows that get over a million viewers from across the world. There are many official tournaments that many people watch like League of Legends, FIFA and many more.

Anyone can watch online on YouTube, Twitch and more platforms. Some casual players are skilled enough to go into eSports and that is what most of them do. A gaming career is going higher in demand than ever before. People are watching their favourite live streamers come online just to practice for six hours before a tournament.

So, the question arises, why is eSports so popular? Let us look at the history and understand the reason.

As mentioned before, gaming has existed for the past 30 years. It had already taken off but not as much as it has now. Let us look at the reasons.

Similar to other sports:

eSports, as the name suggests is a sport. Gaming, being extremely popular, is watched like a sport all around the world. Just like how people tune in to football, basketball, rugby and more, gaming is also given the same treatment.

Accessibility:

Gaming is extremely accessible. You could play games on an old phone or you could blow a grand on a gaming rig. The choice is yours. Another point is that games run on portable devices. This makes it possible for people to play wherever and whenever they want, whether on the toilet seat or on a bench in a park.

Diversity:

Games are also extremely diverse. There are hundreds of millions of games and you can choose your favourite genres and types whether it is a shooting, racing or an MMO game. So many games available both for free and for a small price.

Quality:

There are so many AAA titles which are popular. So many studios make games which have realistic graphics and great gameplay. Games like Apex Legends, Warzone, Rocket League and one of the best games, Minecraft, have good graphics.

Addictive:

Games are addicting. You can’t deny it. Once you get a good game, you play it for a long time. Once that game is done, you download more games to scratch that itch of finishing a good game. The point is that gaming is extremely addictive and that gives more sales to the company and more fun to you. It’s a win-win situation.

Social activity:

Gaming is a social activity. You have applications like Discord, Teamspeak and Skype to talk directly with your friends while gaming. Most games even have voice chat built in so you can take advantage of it without having to download a separate program. eSports is also team-based, which means you have to communicate with your team on where you are taking position, what plan you have and much more. To communicate swiftly and effectively, voice chat is the best option.

Conclusion:

The reasons stated above are all proper reasonings for eSports being so popular. eSports has become revolutionary, scraping popularity at a swift and shocking rate. In the last forty years, the world has never seen such a speed of growth in eSports.

We are just getting started. Who knows? Maybe eSports may grow much more than this and shock the world again.
